Marlboro Township Info and Homes For Sale

Marlboro’s reputation spans far beyond the borders of New Jersey. The town has been recognized as one of the safest places to live in the State, was ranked as one of the ‘Top 100 Places To Live’ by CNN Money, and its High School was ranked in the Top 50 in the state by NJ.com.

History

Marlboro was home to many cornerstone events during the Revolutionary War.  The town was located right outside the Battle of Monmouth and it was one of the stops the British troops made when they retreated to Sandy Hook.  Decades after the war, Marlboro became an independent political entity from its parent township, Freehold, in 1848. The town’s name was derived from one of the areas pioneer industries, Marl.  A substance that was made up of the remains of prehistoric fish, clams, and other types of prehistoric creatures, Marl served as a great fertilizer for crops before commercial fertilizers were available.
